FABERGÉ : Lady Compliquée PeacockBlack

In the latter part of last year that #thewatchnerd arranged for a joint visit to the Fabergé boutique in London, which had kindly agreed to showing us some of their replica watches. We had been motivated by the desire to see the new Visionnaire DTZ, but found ourselves staying not just for that, but also for the Lady Compliquée Winter. The latter is notable for its movement, which made its debut in the Peacock replica watch.

At Baselworld 2015 Fabergé and Agenhor launched the Lady Compliquée Peacock. With a retrograde time display at its time telling centre, there are fanned blades that spread the peacock’s feathers gradually over the course of an hour, indicating the minutes on a scale and the hours via a rotating ring, with the four moving blades flying back to their original position with the passing of an hour.

Based on a 1908 egg which contained a bird automaton that could spread its wings, in this replica watch the first feather moves forward by 15 degrees per hour, the second by 30 degrees per hour, the third by 45 degrees, and the last by 60 degrees. This is achieved by an Agenhor invention that they have called AgenFAN, made of two series of toothed wheels of increasing diameters on one and decreasing diameters on the other which are superimposed on the same axis. They are placed side by side and mesh along their length. The first toothed wheel is driven by the spindle of the hours cam (the hours cam is beneath the visible hours ring) and drives the second, which powers each of the blades.

This complex and really rather glorious new way of doing a retrograde time display was recognised with a win in the ‘High Mechanical’ category at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2015.

Powering the fanned retrograde time display is the manually wound Calibre 6901, which has a diametre of 32.7mm and a power reserve of 50 hours, beating at 21,600VPH. It is visible through the case back and has horizontal Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges, and circular graining on the main plate.

At Baselworld 2016, following on from the original, the ruby, and the emerald, the a new one appeared – the Lady Compliquée Peacock Black Sapphire. It featured an 18 carat gold dial with snow-set diamonds (157), black sapphires (59) and black sapphire cabochons (6), with the hand-engraved peacock in 18 carat white gold. Surrounding this dial are an onyx rotating hour ring, minute track, and and minute and hour indicators in black lacquer.

All of this is inside a 38mm platinum case (and crown) and adorned with a bezel set with 54 brilliant-cut diamonds. The strap is alligator, with a matching platinum Fabergé pin buckle.

This year there is a new version for those who like their replica watches without stones (and their peacock more streamlined), simply called the Fabergé Lady Compliquée Peacock Black.

I find myself more drawn to this new one. The real bird may use vibrancy and colour to gain attention but in a possibly counterintuitive way, black seems to draw my attention because of its absence. In comparing the two black versions, I like to think of the Black Peacock Sapphire as the Art Nouveau version and this, the Art Deco one.

Late last year A. Lange and Söhne added two new models to their entry level piece, the Saxonia, which had been given a small cosmetic revamp at SIHH 2015 into a smaller 35mm piece as well as a slightly amended dial aesthetic in terms of hour and minute markers. These two new models came in the form of a new solid silver dark grey dial Boutiqe Edition, and the size has been increased from 35mm to 37mm (7.8mm thick), a size that is perhaps is more in fitting with current dress replica watch size and will broaden its appeal.www.repliqueparfaite.fr

Inside the replica watch is the manual-wind Calibre L941.1 (the same as for the other Saxonia) with a power reserve of 45 hours. The hand-finished movement displays Lange characteristics such as the hand-engraved balance cock.

The Saxonia collection seems to receive less publicity than other Langes, perhaps in part because they are their ‘entry’ replica watches, but there is no rational reason for their relative lack of fanfare, as they bear the Lange hallmarks and quality of finishing. For those who are looking to get into the brand, these are attractive propositions.

Available in either pink gold or white gold, we had the chance to take a few photos of the former. The white gold version comes with rhodiumed hands.

Hands-on With Zenith StarMoonphase

Today’s replica watch is a slightly unusual creature. The Star Moonphase is a 37mm cushion-cased replica watch in stainless steel containing the Elite Calibre 692, which has a power reserve of fifty hours.

 

With a thickness of 10.50mm to the 37mm size this is a what for me, is a more realistically sized modern cushion case replica watch. There are other cushion cases on the market at the moment but I’ve found that many are a tad on the big size for most people. The Star Moonphase however, sits perfectly, with none of the sides jutting out, and no necessity to push it above my wrist to sit properly. I became quite attached to it during my couple of weeks with it, wearing it most of the time. It is, however, very much a dress replica watch. That’s not to say that it doesn’t look good with. jeans and a t-shirt, but they don’t feel like its natural home.

This is something that is readily rectified with a strap change, but after my weeks with it and letting quite a few people try it on, it became apparent that there were men who would consider buying it for its looks and size, but the strap being so short hinted at it being targeted at women, and whether I like it or not, this will be a factor in the decision-making process of many.

With its shiny rhodium-plated hands the anthracite dial with guilloché motif has more ‘depth’ to it than appears at first glance. Its dial colour almost seems to change colour depending on lighting; occasionally showing hints of chocolate under certain conditions and greyish under others. Without the guilloché this colour (and thus the replica watch) might have felt a bit lifeless, but with the texture allowing the play of light on it, it looks good.

 

This is not to say that there weren’t plenty of men who can wear it on this strap, because there were, but it is noticeably short. Putting it on another strap might just open up a few more minds to what is quite an attractive replica watch.

ON THE WRIST : Zenith Elite Ultra Thin LadyMoonphase Replica Watch

With the arrival of Australia and New Zealand’s first brand manager for Zenith also came the offer to test drive a few models. As expected, we jumped at the opportunity. Perhaps not so expected, we have not restricted ourself to men’s (and un-gendered, but that is for a later post) models. We endeavour to cover men’s/ women’s and uncategorised luxury replica watches, but this first Zenith ‘on the wrist’ is for a women-oriented piece.

Meet the Elite Ultra Thin Lady Moonphase.

THE REPLICA WATCH

In a 33mm stainless steel case set with a diamond bezel and mother-of-pearl dial, this is one variant of the Ultra Thin Lady Moonphase line. The mother-of-pearl dial gives it more ‘lift’ than the plain dialled relatives, and the bezel’s diamonds are petite and thus not too overt for those who want a small sparkle but to still be discreet. The use of eleven diamonds on the dial – having thought about this for a bit I still think that for some people, there’s a case for plain markers instead. The overall effect of the dial (and the replica watch), however, is attractive.

The hands are rhodium-plated and faceted, giving them a nice flickering sparkle under light.

Perhaps above all else, the thing for which Zenith is most renowned is its movements. The El Primero obviously, but it is always good to see women’s replica watches not being neglected on the movement front (translation : mechanical). Inside this replica watch is the automatic Elite Calibre 692, which is visible through the case back. At 28,800 VPH, it has a power reserve of fifty hours.

Strap-wise it comes on a shiny grey alligator strap with a rubber lining, something that is actually really useful for warmer climes or months. It is also available on a bracelet.

ON THE WRIST

This was worn on and off over the course of a few weeks, trialled both on a very petite wrist and on a female wrist that is more accustomed to men’s replica watches.

As a challenge, it was worn primarily during the day. I use the word ‘challenge’ because the women concerned are not just unaccustomed to wearing replica watches with stones but also because they are by default even less inclined to wear them as a daily replica watch (as opposed to an evening replica watch), preferring something a bit more low key.

What happened was interesting, and an example of how habit normalises even a diamond bezel replica watch.

This is not a replica watch with large diamonds in the bezel, and in that sense it does not stand out overly, for those who want something with no precious stones during the day time. This means that to wear, you can get used to it pretty quickly, forgetting that you have diamonds on your wrist. In that sense it can work as a daily replica watch for some women, just as it can work as a transitional work/ evening replica watch, or just for evenings.

It wears lightly and comfortably; the strap is shiny but not overly so (and I mention this because there are some Zenith straps that perhaps could be slightly more muted), and the grey strap on this particular piece suited it very well. The strap colour choice in this instance gave the replica watch more flexibility in terms of transitional dressing, but you could easily change its looks with a brighter bolder colour. The dial is a neutral enough one that there are many strap colour options that would go with it. As for the dial layout itself, it’s clear and legible, the seconds sub dial is decently sized, and the use of mother-of-pearl, which shimmers nicely in the light, will be appealing not just to those who like its use but also to those who want a simple dial from a function perspective but who want something a bit more from a white dial.

Size-wise/ lug-wise it sat nicely on both the wrists on which it was trialled, with the wrist used to wearing men’s/ larger replica watches not finding 33mm too small despite a size preference of 36mm-41mm replica watches. As mentioned above, it’s interesting how quickly a wrist can get used to something new.

If there’s one thing I would change about this piece it’s to take away the diamond markers (which are quite close to the bezel, but I actually think that this works better than if they were more towards the centre) to give it an even cleaner look, but this is a matter of personal preference.

The Zenith Elite Ultra Thin Lady Moonphase has an Australian RRP of $11,200 on a strap and for those who like bracelets, $11,800.

If we go back a bit over a year ago to elegant Replica Watches & Wonders 2014 Baume & Mercier launched a special edition of their sucessful Promesse line, with red lacquer, to mark the occasion. This year they followed up with another limited edition of eight pieces, this time with a jade bezel. It is the newest member of the pieces that they call Emblematic’ replica watches.

The new Jade Promesse is in the same 34mm case as its red predecessor, with sixty-one diamonds surrounding the oval stone bezel and silver-coloured guilloché dial in what they call a “drapé” design. With the use of jade perhaps more than with the use of red lacquer, Baume et Mercier have tapped into a stone that bears great sentimental and symbolic value to its intended audience. Not just this, but as Design Product Director Alexandre Peraldi told me during the fair, there was a lot of trial and error innvolved in finding the right jade and managing to cut a piece of jade into this shape. When you look at how thin it has to be in order to fit into this, you can completely understand what a difficult process this must have been.

Inside is a Swiss quartz movement, which is the only thing I’d have changed about this replica watch. Engraved on the back is “Limited Edition”. Coming on a glossy white alligator strap, the Jade Promesse is a rather attractive piece, it’s just a shame about the movement. It would have been fitting had something like jade, which is about longevity as much as many other things, been pared with a movement intended for longevity.

Replica WATCHES WONDERS 2015: Piaget LimelightStella

One of the foci of luxury Piaget’s Replica Watches & Wonders 2015 releases was that of their first automatic complication replica watch for their women’s collection in the form of the Limelight Stella replica watches. The complication in question? A moonphase, courtesy of the new automatic Calibre 584P.

Designed and developed in both of Piaget’s La Côte-aux-Fées and Geneva locations, its display of the lunar cycle is via a two large moons framed by a diamond-set v-shape opening at 12 o’clock. Surrounding the moons you will see the celestial features of Ursa Major and Minor.

The moon phases appear on a disc adorned with stars and two moons that is driven by a 135-toothed wheel that requires a correction only after 122 years, so don’t stress too much about it.

This new Calibre 584P has a 42-hour power reserve, is 21,600VPH, a circular-grained mainplate, bevelled bridges, blued screws, circular Côtes de Genève, and the Piaget coat-of-arms on the oscillating weight.

In terms of the exterior, it is a very nicely sized 36mm in diametre (thickness of 6mm), which is what gives it enough space to have such a prominent moon. It is of special note that the case design is that of an oval ‘inside’ the circular case. There are fourteen brilliant-cut diamonds accentuating the moonphase complication, with delicate applied hour-markers and a sunburst motif on the dial. There is also an added bit of charming whimsy via the star on the end of the seconds hand. Close-up, it really is a beautiful dial on an elegant replica watch.

For women who are used to wearing replica watches smaller than 36mm you will find that the lines, especially in terms of the ‘shape within a shape’, add a softness to the size, and the lugs are very short and snug, so it is far less likely to hang over your wrist. For those accustomed to replica watches of around 36mm and above, and this is an increasing number of women, then you will have a fair idea of how this might sit on your wrist.

Available in three versions, the pink gold Limelight Stella comes in polished or gem-set bezel verions, whilst the white gold version features a gem-set bezel. They all come on alligator straps with matching pin buckles.

Replica CARTIER : Rêves dePanthères

The name of today’s replica watch has been translated into ‘Dreams of the Panthers’, but I like to think that perhaps ‘Reverie of the Panthers’ is just as appropriate, as they appear to be daydreaming. This may be, as they say, six of one and half a dozen of the other, but some words are more evocative of a mood than others, and the Cartier panthers, appearing for the first time in a pack (and facing away from the wearer) seems contemplative in this scene.

This new piece, launched in January, is another one of those jewelled replica watches that Cartier seems to adore making, and it’s a stunner. Entirely pavé-set with diamonds, these daydreaming panthers, whose spots are black lacquer, observe not only the passage of the hours but also a day/ night complication, with the sky changing from day to night on the display disc. This is all powered by the automatic Calibre 9916 MC with a power reserve of forty-eight hours.

For those unfamiliar with this type of time display, the single hand points to the minutes, and the hour is indicated by the placement of the sun (day) or moon (night) across the sky. The replica watch itself is a 42mm rhodium-finished 18 carat white gold case and comes on a dark-blue alligator strap.

The Rêves de Panthères is clearly a formal replica watch and a very beautiful one at that, but in saying this there is something about the poses of the three panthers that is relaxed, as if they are sitting in companionable silence. For me, at least, this is the most striking and endearing aspect of this replica watch.

EXTREMELY REPLICA PIAGET: Black Tie Vintage Inspiration

For a few years now, brands have been reaching into ‘their’ 1960s and 1970s for inspiration. Many brands have gone down the path to those decades for, in particular, sports replica watches, but to modernise dress replica watches from that period is possibly a rather more tricky proposition, especially in the case of women’s replica watches, which were considerably smaller then than what the 21st century woman is accustomed to.

I am not old enough to have registered the profile of fake luxury Piaget during this period but my father was, and it was through his eyes that I first learned about Piaget. As a child there were several brands of which I was perhaps more aware than others because of his ownership of them, and Piaget was one of them. His was a dress replica watch on a yellow gold bracelet with a stone dial. Very bold and reminiscent of what I see in the replica watches the subject of today’s post.

Two models symbolising this period of Piaget’s history have been added to what they call the ‘Extremely Piaget’ emblematic replica watches line.

The first of these is the one at the top of this post, the (double) cushion-shaped Black Tie Vintage Inspiration. It is based on the Beta 21 quartz movement piece owned by Andy Warhol but now contains a mechanical movement (automatic Calibre 534P). This new version is in a white gold stepped case with a brushed bezel measuring 45mm x 40mm and an onyx black dial. This is actually a great looking replica watch; very strong lines but in spite of its size pretty dressy, and reeking of suitability for evening wear. It is limited to twenty-eight pieces.

Those with their finger on the Piaget retro pulse may know that there has been another similar piece in the Extremely Piaget’ collection, but with its case in 18 carat yellow gold and the dial a natural green jade colour. In comparing them both, this new white gold one seems more modern and probably with broader appeal.

The second ‘vintage inspiration’ model launch at SIHH 2015 was a women’s replica watch in a retro oval shape that is a nod to a piece from Piaget’s past. It featured an oval case set with diamonds and emeralds with a matching jade dial, came on a gold bracelet, and was the inspiration behind subsequent similar oval models. You can see the original piece on which this was based on Piaget’s website at this link. Its most famous fan was Jackie Kennedy Onassis.

In many ways the bracelet is key with this new piece, and Piaget are proud of what is called a ‘palace’ finish. Although the goldsmith was not there when I visited the booth, they had someone there demonstrating the art of creating these bracelets so that they are not only comfortable, but achieve that almost shimmering effect on the wearer’s wrist. The bracelet is fitted directly to the case.

This replica watch may be familiar to those of you who know the ‘Extremely Piaget’ women’s replica watches well – it is already a part of that collection in the form of a pink gold version with twenty brilliant-cut diamonds and four turquoises on its bezel and a matching turquoise dial, and a white gold version with twenty brilliant-cut diamonds and four blue sapphires on its bezel, surrounding a matching lapis lazuli dial.

This new model comes in two variants : a silver-toned oval dial with a diamond bezel, and the replica watch itself in either white or rose gold. The size is 27mm x 22mm, and the twenty-four brilliant-cut diamonds are a total of 1.46 carats. Perhaps the one ‘downer’ in these replica watches is that they contain a quartz movement, the Piaget 56P, but I recognise that the movement probably isn’t the critical element to these replica watches.
