Brand IWC Replica News Watch Review

High Quality IWC Pilot’s Replica Watch Chronograph Top GunMiramar

SIHH2016IWCPilotChronographTopGunMiramar10

For a quick overview/ history of the Top Gun Miramar replica watches, click on the link above.

The new chronograph looks pretty much as it did before, but as with the non-chronograph version this new chronograph is also now smaller, with its ceramic case now measuring 44mm.

Well along with this, they also released a new Top Gun Miramar Chronograph which we had on loan for a few days and had the opportunity to wear and photograph. You may recall an earlier post about one of IWC’s new pilot’s replica watches for 2016, the Mark XVIII Top Gun Miramar.

There is also a hacking seconds feature on the small seconds at 6 o’clock. The pushers are titanium.Functionally, you can see a combined hour and minute counter/ totaliser at 12 o’clock, a simplified date display which I think looks better than the previous look, and of course the chronograph is flyback.

The new Chronograph Top Gun Miramar also features a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields and a screw-down crown and the sapphire crystal is secured against displacement by a drop in air pressuer. Water resistance is 60m (6 bar).

The Top Gun logo is now discreetly engraved on the solid case back, as opposed to the more colourful print used in the past, a change I rather like. Inside is the automatic Calibre 89361 with a 68-hour power reserve.

As with the previously blogged new Miramar, this also comes with an embossed black or green calfskin strap, the latter looking remarkably like fabric.

With such a strong colour dominance to the Miramar pieces from the dial to the strap, versatility is something that I have been asked about. Rather unexpectedly, I found that I have a surprising amount of clothing and accessories that matched it, and can tell you that despite very much being a sporty replica watch yes it can be dressed up. For those like myself who seem to tend towards black/ white for sports dials, spending a few days with a Miramar for the first time (all previous Miramar experiences having been more fleeting) showed me that after a few days, it’s really easy to develop an affinity for a differently coloured dial.

For those of you who have wanted a Miramar but whose wrists haven’t been able to feel totally comfortable with the larger sizing, this latest size reduction by IWC will be good news. The replica watch wears like a 43-44mm and the smaller size makes it so much accessible. I was particularly drawn to the strap both in terms of textures and comfort. It’s a great looking strap.

Dress Watch Hands-on Swiss Replica Zenith Replica

Hands-on With Zenith StarMoonphase

ZenithStarMoonphase1

Today’s replica watch is a slightly unusual creature. The Star Moonphase is a 37mm cushion-cased replica watch in stainless steel containing the Elite Calibre 692, which has a power reserve of fifty hours.

With a thickness of 10.50mm to the 37mm size this is a what for me, is a more realistically sized modern cushion case replica watch. There are other cushion cases on the market at the moment but I’ve found that many are a tad on the big size for most people. The Star Moonphase however, sits perfectly, with none of the sides jutting out, and no necessity to push it above my wrist to sit properly. I became quite attached to it during my couple of weeks with it, wearing it most of the time. It is, however, very much a dress replica watch. That’s not to say that it doesn’t look good with. jeans and a t-shirt, but they don’t feel like its natural home.

Part of the Star Collection which is clearly targeted at women, it is perhaps the least stereotypically (and overtly) female-targeted piece in the line. After having spent a few weeks with it, and having shown it to a large number of people, I’d even be so bold as to suggest that Zenith either change the strap (more on that later) and market it as a unisex piece, or somehow not categorise it at all.

So, to the strap. It is black alligator leather with protective rubber lining. The lining is a bonus for those who live in warmer climes and worry about the effect of perspiration on leather, and it comes on a very secure triple-folding clasp.

There is, however, one small issue – it is quite short. This is something that is readily rectified with a strap change, but after my weeks with it and letting quite a few people try it on, it became apparent that there were men who would consider buying it for its looks and size, but the strap being so short hinted at it being targeted at women, and whether I like it or not, this will be a factor in the decision-making process of many.

With its shiny rhodium-plated hands the anthracite dial with guilloché motif has more ‘depth’ to it than appears at first glance. Its dial colour almost seems to change colour depending on lighting; occasionally showing hints of chocolate under certain conditions and greyish under others. Without the guilloché this colour (and thus the replica watch) might have felt a bit lifeless, but with the texture allowing the play of light on it, it looks good.

This is not to say that there weren’t plenty of men who can wear it on this strap, because there were, but it is noticeably short. Putting it on another strap might just open up a few more minds to what is quite an attractive replica watch.

The Australian RRP for the Zenith Star Moonphase is $7,800.

Bulova Replica Hands-on Men Watch

Bulova Moonwatch Releases

20160531_160014_hdr-01.jpeg

You may recall a post late last year about an impending re-edition by Bulova of the replica watch Apollo 15 commander David Scott’s Bulova that he wore on the third of his 1971 moonwalks. The re-edition was purportedly going to be available from January 2016, but ended up having its launch at Baselworld 2016, and it is now available in Australia. I visited a Sydney authorised dealer to take a look, and here are some quick phone photos of it.

Firstly, a re-cap.

20160531_160215_hdr-01.jpeg

As it was not authorised to use for this mission, and in light of NASA’s relationship with Omega, its use was pretty much left quietly to the annals of space history, with the replica watch itself kept by Scott until he decided to sell it. Its worth remembering that Bulova had been one of the replica watch brands in the running during the original NASA trials to be the official NASA ‘space replica watch’.

On the new replica watch you can see the “262 KHz” on the dial. Bulova (owned by Citizen) has been releasing a number of UHF-powered replica watches, with the frequency stated on the dial.

Updated using Bulova’s UHF (Ultra High Frequency) quartz technology, it has luminous hands and markers, tachymeter and calendar in a stainless steel case with a 50m water resistance. It comes on a black leather strap and with a second velcro strap modelled after the one Scott used to wear his Omega and Bulova replica watches.

Scott had the Bulova Chronograph prototype with him as a personal backup, unbeknownst to NASA. Bulova had asked him to test the replica watch, to see how it would perform during the Apollo 15 mission. As he prepared to go outside for his third (and last moonwalk) on August 2, 1971 he found that his Omega Speedmaster’s crystal was missing, having popped off at some point.

20160531_160021_hdr-01.jpeg

At an Australian RRP of $899 (I was offered a better price on this by the dealer, who does not know me) it is a more accessibly priced alternative to Omega for those with a keen interest in moon replica watches, and moon replica watch completists.

Apart from the brand typeface and KHz text on the dial it looks like the original, with the same case shape and elongated rectangular chronograph pushers. To handle, the replica watch is fairly slim and not heavy. I did not get to actuate the pushers because they had the protective yellow ‘stoppers’ on them (which they did not offer to remove). I had popped into the authorised dealer along with someone else, and whilst I found myself quite liking it (I would wear it) he did not like the overall ‘feel’ of it, finding it a bit lightweight. However, we both liked the simple matter of fact engraving on the case back, which is a nice touch.

Longines Replica

HANDS-ON: The Replica Longines Heritage MilitaryCOSD

LonginesHeritageMilitaryCOSD8

We have already covered a number of new Heritage pieces from Longines this year such as the Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Heritage Chronograph, Pulsometer Chronograph and Heritage Diver 1967, but these weren’t the end of Longines’ 2015 story. For those who are more into the military-inspired replica watches from Longines’ rich past and who have perhaps not found other recent pieces quite to their preferences, here is a new proposition for you.

For those acquainted with with vintage military replica watches, the dial will immediately be familiar to you. The new Heritage Military COSD is based on replica watches issued to British Military personnel at the end of WWII by the Company Ordnance Supply Depot (COSD) for use in airbone military units. It comes in two variants which, aside from the Longines-esque addition of a date, are both pretty faithful to the original both in features and design. Both of the variants have an inner red 24-hour time scale familiar to many milwatches and a railroad track chapter ring.

The cream (or as Longines call it, opaline) dial model has hands framed in blue and the matte black dial one, rhodium-plated hands. There is also the use of Super-LumiNova® dots and batons on the minute railway track, marking hours and minutes.

Of particular note is the use of the ‘broad arrow’ on the upper part of the dial, a symbol in use in Britain at the time of the replica watch’s original issue to indicate government property. It is also a symbol that is much desired by collectors of military replica watches from the period.

The replica watch is available on either an alligator strap or a khaki-coloured NATO, and there is no question for me that the NATO look is not only the better of the two options but also the one that gives it the best ‘re-issue milwatch’ feel to it.

The original used the Calibre 12.68 in a chromed brass case; the modern version is a 40mm polished stainless steel case with a flat bezel that gives it quite a strong presence, and contains the solidly reliable automatic Calibre L619.2 movement (ETA 2892/ A2) with a power reserve of forty-two hours.

Water resistance is 30m, which basically amounts to some minor splashing. Air and not sea.

Two good looking replica watches that add to Longines’ rich Heritage collection, these aren’t ‘bread and butter’ pieces but like all other replica watches in this line, they’re not meant to be; these are modern acknowledgements of pieces that have been historically important to them. If you are looking for an affordable modern military-inspired replica watch with a very clear design bloodline, then take a look at these. As usual, and I realise I am getting incredibly predictable here, I’d have have probably voted for no date function, but I recognise that many like it in a modern replica watch.

On a NATO strap the Australian RRP (both dials) is $2,225, and on the alligator leather strap, the RRP is $2,500.

REPLICA DE BETHUNE : DBSTourbillon

DBSTourbillon3

It’s interesting how much impact young independent brands have had on the cheap replica watch industry. Established in 2002, De Bethune is known for its distinctive mold-breaking designs for what are, at their heart, often quite classical pieces of replica watchmaking. Even their least dressy piece, this year’s DB28GS (Grand Sport) still exhibits all of those design cues that make it distinctively De Bethune.

This year they created a special DBS Tourbillon that was released at Baselworld 2015 and which Sydney had its first opportunity to see when Alessandro Zanetta brought one with him during a recent visit. The DBS holds a special place because the first DBS was made a decade ago for the 2005 Only Replica Watch Auction, and this DBS Tourbillon was created to mark this tenth anniversary.

The unusual lugs and the crown at 12 o’clock are some of the distinctive features (even by De Bethune standards) of this new limited edition (ten pieces) 45mm x 42.5mm white gold replica watch. If you look to its top you will see a pivoting gold plate connecting the upper section of the strap and  the case middle. When the original replica watch was released, this was the forerunner of what developed into the brand’s famous patented floating/ articulated lugs. This means that even at this size, it sits surprisingly snugly on varied wrists.

Inside the birthday DBS is a 30-second tourbillon featuring a high 36,000VPH frequency. The tourbillon’s cage is made of 63 parts weighing a total of 0.18g. Powering it all is the manual-wind De Bethune Calibre DB2019 with a power reserve of five days.

Now to the dial – the signature deltoid-shaped bridges are anthracite with ruthenium finishing and accompanied by hand-polished and blued spherical hour indicators and a silver-toned minute ring.

The case back is solid but for a small window with a linear power reserve indicator and an anniversary nod. It comes on a black alligator strap.

As mentioned, this is to be made in a limitation of ten pieces in honour of the tenth anniversary of the DBS. The price is 195,000 CHF.

ON THE WRIST : Zenith Elite Ultra Thin LadyMoonphase Replica Watch

ZenithEliteUTLadyMoonphase16

With the arrival of Australia and New Zealand’s first brand manager for Zenith also came the offer to test drive a few models. As expected, we jumped at the opportunity. Perhaps not so expected, we have not restricted ourself to men’s (and un-gendered, but that is for a later post) models. We endeavour to cover men’s/ women’s and uncategorised luxury replica watches, but this first Zenith ‘on the wrist’ is for a women-oriented piece.

Meet the Elite Ultra Thin Lady Moonphase.

THE REPLICA WATCH

In a 33mm stainless steel case set with a diamond bezel and mother-of-pearl dial, this is one variant of the Ultra Thin Lady Moonphase line. The mother-of-pearl dial gives it more ‘lift’ than the plain dialled relatives, and the bezel’s diamonds are petite and thus not too overt for those who want a small sparkle but to still be discreet. The use of eleven diamonds on the dial – having thought about this for a bit I still think that for some people, there’s a case for plain markers instead. The overall effect of the dial (and the replica watch), however, is attractive.

The hands are rhodium-plated and faceted, giving them a nice flickering sparkle under light.

Perhaps above all else, the thing for which Zenith is most renowned is its movements. The El Primero obviously, but it is always good to see women’s replica watches not being neglected on the movement front (translation : mechanical). Inside this replica watch is the automatic Elite Calibre 692, which is visible through the case back. At 28,800 VPH, it has a power reserve of fifty hours.

Strap-wise it comes on a shiny grey alligator strap with a rubber lining, something that is actually really useful for warmer climes or months. It is also available on a bracelet.

ON THE WRIST

This was worn on and off over the course of a few weeks, trialled both on a very petite wrist and on a female wrist that is more accustomed to men’s replica watches.

As a challenge, it was worn primarily during the day. I use the word ‘challenge’ because the women concerned are not just unaccustomed to wearing replica watches with stones but also because they are by default even less inclined to wear them as a daily replica watch (as opposed to an evening replica watch), preferring something a bit more low key.

What happened was interesting, and an example of how habit normalises even a diamond bezel replica watch.

This is not a replica watch with large diamonds in the bezel, and in that sense it does not stand out overly, for those who want something with no precious stones during the day time. This means that to wear, you can get used to it pretty quickly, forgetting that you have diamonds on your wrist. In that sense it can work as a daily replica watch for some women, just as it can work as a transitional work/ evening replica watch, or just for evenings.

It wears lightly and comfortably; the strap is shiny but not overly so (and I mention this because there are some Zenith straps that perhaps could be slightly more muted), and the grey strap on this particular piece suited it very well. The strap colour choice in this instance gave the replica watch more flexibility in terms of transitional dressing, but you could easily change its looks with a brighter bolder colour. The dial is a neutral enough one that there are many strap colour options that would go with it. As for the dial layout itself, it’s clear and legible, the seconds sub dial is decently sized, and the use of mother-of-pearl, which shimmers nicely in the light, will be appealing not just to those who like its use but also to those who want a simple dial from a function perspective but who want something a bit more from a white dial.

Size-wise/ lug-wise it sat nicely on both the wrists on which it was trialled, with the wrist used to wearing men’s/ larger replica watches not finding 33mm too small despite a size preference of 36mm-41mm replica watches. As mentioned above, it’s interesting how quickly a wrist can get used to something new.

If there’s one thing I would change about this piece it’s to take away the diamond markers (which are quite close to the bezel, but I actually think that this works better than if they were more towards the centre) to give it an even cleaner look, but this is a matter of personal preference.

The Zenith Elite Ultra Thin Lady Moonphase has an Australian RRP of $11,200 on a strap and for those who like bracelets, $11,800.

Omega Replica

PHOTOS : Replica Omega’s White Side of theMoon

2015OmegaWhiteSide3

Two years ago the replica Omega Speedmaster went to the ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and last year, it went grey with a lunar dust theme. At Baselworld 2015 they launched their latest/ last ‘Side of’ variant the ‘White Side of the Moon’, which I described at the time as ‘The Dark Side x Alaska Project’ but which Omega somewhat more poetically describes as reflecting lunar radiance.

At any rate it’s white.

Very white.

In fact it is even more white ‘in the ceramic’ than it is in photos, as I discovered during the Sydney launch of some of this year’s new models.

It is also very shiny.

Their third Speedmaster ceramic model, the White Side has a dial and brushed and polished case made from zirconium oxide ceramic. The polished white ceramic bezel has a matte chromium nitride tachymeter scale. The polished ceramic pushers on the case function independently so there is no risk to the chronograph mechanisms as a result of inadvertent manipulation.

The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, treated with an anti-reflective coating on both sides, protects the dial with its 18K white gold hands and applied indexes. The centre chronograph seconds hand is rhodium-plated and with a red tip. The hour, minute and chronograph seconds hands, indices and two dots at 12 o’clock all have white Super-LumiNova. Engraved just above the centre of the dial is “ZrO2” as a nod to its material. There is a small white sub-dial at 3 o’clock that serves as a 60-minute and 12-hour recorder and a small second sub-dial can be found at 9 o’clock.

The Speedmaster White Side of the Moon comes on a rather shiny white leather strap with a white ceramic and Grade 5 titanium clasp.

The white ceramic case back is polished with bevelled scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, matte chromium nitride marks, and is engraved with the name of the replica watch: “White Side of the Moon”. Inside is the Co-Axial Calibre 9300 that was in the other ‘Sides’, COSC-certified and with a 60-hour power reserve. A handy thing about the movement is that there is an independently adjustable hour hand.

It’s 44.25mm in diametre and has a bi-compax layout like the Dark and Grey Sides. This format, as opposed to the original tri-compax dial, was first used on the Speedmaster Co-Axial Chronograph that was Omega’s first Speedy to use their in-house Co-Axial Calibre 9300 movement. As per that model, the sub dial at 3 o’clock for this new model is both 12-hour and 60-minute counters; it has two stacked hands, the longer one counting 60 minutes, the shorter 12 hours. The small seconds sub dial is at 9 o’clock.

The hour and minute hands are 18K white gold, as are the hands on both sub-dials, and indices. The centre chronograph hand is rhodium-plated and features a red tip for visibility against the black surface. There is also the use of Super-LumiNova on the dots at 12 o’clock, and the hour, minute and chronograph hands.

There have been a lot of Speedmaster models. In terms of the three coloured ‘Sides’ my vote is definitely still first with the Dark Side. The Grey Side was actually more attractive than I had expected it to be, but this white one feels less ‘tool replica watch’ and more ‘Statement Speedmaster’. Perhaps I am conservative, but the White Side of the Moon feels like a Speedmaster (and I am distinguishing it from other ‘all-white’ replica watches because to me, Speedys fall into a category of their own) that perhaps isn’t so much for traditionalists as for people who may not have previously taken to it but who are engaged by the ‘moon replica watch’ idea and like bold, shiny replica watches.

IWC Replica

PHOTOS : Replica IWC’s Portugieser Yacht Club – something old, somethingnew

IWCYachtClubChrono7

As most of you will know by now, 2015 is IWC’s year of the Portugieser.

As you all know 2015 is IWC’s year of the Portugieser, with a new collection having been launched at SIHH 2015 to celebrate its 75th anniversary that included an Annual Calendar (their first) containing a new movement, the Cal. 52850, and with which we spent a few ‘on the wrist’ days a little while ago. You can read about that experience, and our thoughts at this link.

Today it’s about the Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph. A model first launched in 2010, this newer version uses the same IWC Calibre 89361 with its 68-hour power reserve.

As mentioned in this recent post about a 1970s Yacht Club, the first of the Yacht Clubs, the Yacht Club Automatic, was launched at the Baselworld 1967. Inside the original Yacht Club was the Calibre 8541 with date display and Pellaton bi-directional winding system. The stainless steel Yacht Club was water resistant to 100m and 60m for the gold version, via a crown mechanism that automatically tightened the seals as water pressure increased.

The new Yacht Club Chronograph is smaller, down from 45.4mm to 43.5mm. In wrist terms, that’s actually quite a difference. Heightwise, the new model is 14.5mm. With the (flyback) automatic IWC Calibre 89361 inside and a case water-resistant to 6 bar (part of its ‘sporty’ bit), the Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph is the only Portugieser model with lumed hands and indices and comes on a rubber strap to complete the sports look.

Available in stainless steel with a slate-coloured (Ref. IW390503) or silver-plated (Ref. IW390502) dial and in 18 carat red gold with a silver-plated dial (Ref. IW390501), we had the second of these for a few days to test drive.

The dial features a railway track style chapter ring with lumed hour indices and polished Arabic numerals. The outer ring is a 60-second chronograph scale for the red chronograph seconds hand.

Note the chronograph function sub dial at 12 o’clock. It is totaliser-style, indicating both elapsed hours and minutes on the one sub dial. display that uses one dial to indicate both elapsed hours and minutes.

As mentioned above, we took a look at a 1970s Yacht Club not too long ago, and thought it might be fun to take a photo of these relatives together.

Of course they are quite different; each was created for different eras and thus different markets for starters, but they do share certain attributes at a glance – both have been created to be very practical sturdy replica watches with no extra frills, but also to be slightly dressy (and in that, versatile from a ‘wearing’ point of view) as well. You can wear these both dressed up and dressed down.

The red gold version (Ref. IWC 390501) is an entirely different proposition, since making it red (or rose) gold makes it more dress and less ‘yacht’/ ‘sports’ replica watch almost by default. However, we live in an age where sports replica watches are red or rose gold and are worn with suits and people like to have choices of metal, so two options satisfy this.

Australian prices for the three models are as follows :

Ref. IW390501 RRP: $31,500

Ref. IW390502 RRP: $16,400

Ref. IW390503 RRP: $16,400

Hands On Replica Chopard L.U.CRegulator Watch

Basel2015ChopardLUCRegulator2

In 2006 Chopard produced their first Regulator model, and at Baselworld 2015 they rebooted its look. With thanks to Chopard Australia, I had the opportunity to look at one recently.

As I’ve mentioned before, the L.U.C. Collection is my favourite from Chopard, and this new L.U.C. has much to like about it.

The thing I like most is also perhaps what is most immediately obvious – how clear the dial is. For those who are unfamiliar with them, a regulator is a timepiece in which the hours, minutes and seconds have separate display indications. With its minutes on the central axis, hours at 3 o’clock and seconds at 6 o’clock, the displays on this new replica watch are not only big and clear with attractive font use but also basically foolproof – things are labelled and you can see it all in a nanosecond if you glance at the replica watch, you don’t have to even take up the extra second or two to adjust your mind to the regulator format.

Basel2015ChopardLUCRegulator5

This readability issue was also a factor in the positioning of the hour at 3 o’clock, as Chopard wanted it to be visible peeking out from under a cuff.

The rest of the dial is taken up by the (216 hour) power reserve at 12 o’clock and a second time zone indicator at 9 o’clock which is adjusted via a pusher at 7 o’clock on the side of the case.

The impressive nine day power reserve is courtesy of the four barrelled chronometer-certified manual-winding Calibre 98.02-L (aka ‘Quattro® technology’) which can be seen through the case back. It measures 30.4mm x 4.90mm.

Basel2015ChopardLUCRegulator7

A 43mm, this rose gold replica watch is big for a dress replica watch, but at 9.78mm thick and short lugs, it sits easily on the wrist. With its sunburst satin-brushed silver-toned dial and gilt dauphine-styled hours and minutes hands, this replica watch is very easy on the eyes. It is not a small task to make a dial with so much on it look uncluttered, but this replica watch manages it. Perhaps some people might vote for losing the date window, I know that there are some strong view about this.

Basel2015ChopardLUCRegulator12

In any event, this is is a rather appealing replica watch ‘in the metal’. Its combination of clean lines and a very clear and legible dial that manages to look full of space with its multiple functions is perhaps its biggest draw card. In a (watch) world where there are dials that really do seem to cram a lot onto them at the expense of clarity, this is something not to be underestimated.

If you are looking for a regulator replica watch that is slightly unusual, and the dual time component of this in particular is precisely that, this is worth taking a look at.

For those who are interested, the Australian RRP for this model is $39,910.
